Understanding Addiction: Heroin, Opioids & the Current Epidemic

In this 45 minute presentation, the presenter will give an overview of the extent of the Heroin & Opioid Epidemic, how these drugs affect the brain, and what research has shown to be effective treatments. Prevention and treatment strategies will be discussed, including what is being done in our communities locally, and there will be time for questions from the audience.

Kenny House is a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist and Certified Clinical Supervisor with over 35 years of experience in the Substance Use and Mental Health field.  He has been involved in program development that has covered a wide range of services - from Prevention to Outpatient Treatment for both adult and adolescent populations, and more recently, to integrating primary care with behavioral health.  Kenny is the Vice-President of Clinical Services for Coastal Horizons and currently the Chairperson of the NC Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence, a Board member for Cape Fear HealthNet and for the American Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence.
