Nature at Home program introduction

Nature at Home program introduction In-Person

Program:

Nature at Home is a collaborative and personalized program designed to transform residents' outdoor spaces into wildlife friendly habitat. By wildlife friendly habitat we are focusing on attracting more birds, butterflies and other pollinators who need special plants to reproduce and to thrive. Our mission is to educate and encourage residents interested in learning the benefits of native plants, identifying and removing invasive plants and engaging in sustainable gardening practices.

Presenters:

Joan Kelly, has been gardening for 50 years. As a native Wilmingtonian she wanted to learn more about natives . The Master Gardener program and Nature AT Home were perfect avenues. She has been a certified New Hanover Master Gardner since 2023.

Tricia Rogers, is a native North Carolinian, raised on a Wake Co. farm. She is a lead in the native garden in our Arboretum and has been involved with Nature At Home since its inception. Tricia has been a certified  New Hanover Master Gardner since 2016.

Margee Herring, president of the Alliance for Cape Fear Trees and co-organizer, with the New Hanover Cooperative Extension, of the Nature at Work campaign will talk briefly about how this campaign supports and complements Nature at Home. Whereas Nature at Home works to support native plant landscaping for individual residences, Nature at Work promotes this landscaping practice everywhere else, for businesses, developers, neighborhoods and churches and schools and public spaces.
