Lunar New Year in the Vietnamese tradition and regional customs with Ginger R. Davis, PhD.

2025 is the year of the “wood snake.” The “wood” represents the strength to progress towards goals while maintaining harmony with one's surroundings, and the “snake” has long been considered a symbol of fertility and vitality. Please join us for a lecture with Ginger R. Davis, PhD, and discuss Lunar New Year in the Vietnamese tradition and other global customs. Dr. Davis will share recipes, decorating, and history for this festive time!

Dr. Ginger R. Davis is the Executive Director of the Lower Cape Fear Historical Society, Latimer House, and Kellam Archive. She is also a faculty member in Norwich University’s Graduate School. Her areas of specialization include U.S. Foreign Policy, the Cold War, Vietnamese Studies, and Black Liberation Studies. After teaching undergraduates for a decade in Hanoi, Davis returned to her home state in 2016, becoming involved in historic preservation efforts in eastern North Carolina. She received her B.A. in History from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, her M.A. from Texas Tech University, and her doctorate from Temple University.
